Well sequenced video
Sub-par subject matter
[dropcap]I[/dropcap] just watched the latest vid from swagged-out rapper Eli Green and I must say I was definitely pleased. It’s something about this song that draws you in. Maybe it’s Green’s charismatic flow or the dynamic energy emitted across the screen. In any event, the video is well shot. With that said, here’s my official $.02…
The Good: The visuals complement the music very well. Director Camera Kev creatively weaves scenes between the kick and snare sequences of the song’s beat which comes off as smooth as a newborn’s cheeks. Green’s New-School flow is clear and precise, giving depth to the head-nodding rhythm.
The Bad: When I closed my eyes, disregarded the visuals and solely took in the audio, I was sadly disappointed. This song sounds like every other song out there right now; the same bland content, the same lackluster hook and the same tired synths. Eli, you’re a decent rapper. Consider expanding your music by broadening your choice of beats and subject matter.
Overall: I’ll be brutally honest, had it not been for the video, which is awesome by the way, I probably would have just kept things moving. But Camera Kev took this lemon of a track and made some sweet visual lemonade. As for Green, this kid has obvious talent. However, if he is going to continue to choose recycled content, he should break the cookie-cutter mold and put his own creative spin on it. That’s my $.02… What’s yours?
