I had a great opportunity on my commute this morning to check out the lead single/video New Jersey natives The Teamsters. “More Dreams”, is the groundbreaking single from their forthcoming mixtape, Final Hour which is due out soon. If their lead single is any indication of how their mixtape will sound fans will be pleased. Director Edwin Escobar captures an abundance of free-spirited moments filled with good times and good music. Here’s my official $.02
The Good: Though video doesn’t have a definitive storyline, the ebb and flow of the visuals match the groove of the music; the setting and actors add substance to the video’s overall mass appeal. The song itself is a cool radio friendly track which features a catchy hook and flawless matching instrumentation.
The Bad: The rhymes suffer from combining rudimentary jargon with somewhat of a complex flow which degrades the flow and makes it hard to follow along. If you want the masses to sing along with you at your shows, you have to make sure they can clearly understand what you’re saying. Teamsters, pronounce and annunciate your words and more people will chime right in. And oh yeah, gratuitous shots of singing a hook while sitting in front of one of your shirtless homies is not a good look (see video at 2:53, 3:03, 3:08, 3:17 and 3:21).
Overall: The Teamsters definitely have a radio/TV friendly video on their hands that people will enjoy over and over again. The missteps are minor and will be easily overlooked. What remains true is that this is a solid video, one with loads of mass appeal that will attract fans of a variety of music. That’s my $.02. What’s yours?
