Welcome to Friday!  We’ve got the latest from Brooklyn soulstress Raye 6. Her video “Not Gonna Be (Forever)” to help you finish th work wee off strong. Here’s my $.02…

The Good: First and foremost, the sing itself is a hit and will be spinning in an assortment of clubs from Brooklyn to Budapest and everywhere in between. Seriously, I haven’t been able to get the song’s hook out of my mind ever since I watched the video. Raye 6’s voice is on point; her even tone is a pleasure to listen to. The visuals are alluring and full of life. The transitions are sleek and the life of each shot blossoms right before your eyes.

The Bad: I’m not too sure what the theme of the video was. It features some vampiric undertones, and after watching the video a few times, I’m still unsure what those undertones represent (Note to Raye 6: please chime in and enlighten us). I’m all for watching the revelation unfold at the end of a story/video however, the revelation in this video wasn’t clear, making it difficult to immediately digest.

Overall: “Not Gonna Be (Forever)” is a great composition, hands down. You’ll love everything about the song from its theme and feel good production all the way to Raye 6’s lovely velvet-like voice. The video is stunning for the eye to capture, but more focus could have been placed upon developing the storyline. You should definitely check it out. Give me a shout if you happen to figure out the video’ premise on your first viewing. That’s my $.02. What’s yours?
