I can’t say enough good things about the kid Toronto Frost. He’s a great talent who will only continue to get better in time. His song “Too Late” exhibits the proof positive of his emceeing abilities. This guy can flat out flow… without a doubt. His video… ehh I can’t give the same props. In all honesty, I wasn’t too impressed by it. Allow me to give you my official $.02…
The Good: As I said before, this kid is remarkably talented. His flow is smooth; his delivery is intense. He punchlines are volatile and he dishes them out at will like Sam Langford’s powerful combinations. The beat is sick! It’s filled with fabulous freestyle fodder that plenty of emcees would love to jump on. Aesthetically, the video looks great. The quality is awesome and the editing came out really nice.
The Bad: Aesthetics alone can’t mask the lack of effort that was put into this piece. The acting was lethargic at best. The location and shot selection was cliché. A rapper walking in a cemetery; really? I felt like I was watching your average, run-of-the-mill video that was shot without having too much thought put into it.
Overall: The truth of the matter is that this is a hot song… hands down. However the video doesn’t do it any justice. If Frost and Director Steven Cerritos work together in the future, I highly suggest that they work together to develop something more entertaining than the cliché rapper rapping in a cemetery. That’s my $.02. What’s yours?
