Strange Elements video for their single, “Giant”, is not bad but it’s not that good either. The music is more enjoyable than the actual visuals, which is a shame. I wish that there was more of a connection between the two, and that the visuals were as good as the song.
Giant has a good haunting quality to it. The vocals are spot on the lead singer’s raspy tones are right on key. The guitar playing is also good; the song features an awesome solo at about mid-song. However, the video doesn’t do it for me. In it we see a demonic looking winged creature flying around and singing amongst flashes of lightning. I’m not sure what this symbolizes. I understand that the song is part of a movie soundtrack and focuses on the general story-line of the movie, but for those who have never seen the movie; it just doesn’t work out successfully. What viewers see on screen doesn’t seem to gel with the music—the visuals should try harder to reach the song’s high level of avidity. Unfortunately, this never happens.
In short, I enjoyed the music but expected much more from the visuals. Sadly, my hopes for this video were let down. Director Michelle Plunkett deserves credit for staying true to the plot of the movie, but the video should have been more appealing to all audiences who may not know the origins of the song.
