San Francisco Hip Hop/New School/Indie artist Skeeze Nutz is bringing us a blazing track with a hot video to go along with it. “Ten Toes Down” is a catchy Rap song with memorable lyrics and a hot beat. The visuals that go along with it are spot on. All the right ingredients come together in this vid, and make it an enjoyable experience to watch.
Skeeze Nutz is a talented rapper, and his rhymes are perfectly complemented by the 90’s vibe backing beat. There is nothing new or groundbreaking in the subject matter of the lyrics– drugs, hoes, and declarations of how one “rolls”– but the song is very catchy, with a chorus sticks in your head and a beat that gets your head bobbing. The scenes in the video are cool– we see Skeeze riding around in a sleek black car, breathtaking shots of the night skyline of the city, and Skeeze standing in front of what I presume is the Golden Gate Bridge rapping and smoking weed. The shots of the city and the bridge lit up at night were nice to see, but the smoking and the shots of the car’s sound system seemed contrived and old. And I didn’t get the point of the guy standing around behind Skeeze wearing a skeleton print scarf around his face. And when the music stops in the middle of the song for the shot of someone stirring sugar in a cup of coffee at a convenience store seemed out of place and pointless too. But despite those slight missteps, director Bay Area Ad did a great job with the visuals.
“Ten Toes Down” is a good video, with very high quality and professional visuals that go along with a catchy song with a hot beat and lyrics to sing along with. I was impressed with this– so many Rap videos all look and sound the same, but this one had some unique elements. Although the subject matter of the song was nothing new and some of the scenes in the vid were recycled from countless other Hip Hop videos, the song was one of the better ones I have heard in a long time and I enjoyed the scenes of the city lit up at night.
