Reviews: Lyric Green

Lyric
Lyric

Teri “Lyric” Green is an up and coming Hip Hop/Neo Soul/ Poetry artist from the Chicago area with mad rap skills and an ear for hot beats. Her music is emotional, catchy, and raw. Alongside the blazing beats are deeply personal lyrics that hit home with listeners and leave lasting impressions. She isn’t the rapper who puts out song after song referring to materialistic things; she actually raps about real life subjects that listeners can relate to.

“Karma” is a song with a nice beat that gets your head nodding, and Lyric’s great rap skills are on display. She is a very talented rapper, and on this song she is nearly flawless. The only downside is the chorus. It was a creative idea to sample Bad Company’s “Ready to Love” in the chorus, but the speeding up of the voice to a near chipmunk falsetto is not too pleasing to the ear. If this part of the song were slowed down to a normal speed it wouldn’t be as distracting. “Take It Back” is a song with a more serious tone. Lyric raps in a spoken-word type cadence over a hard punishing beat. The lyrics are emotional– she talks about finally reaching her dreams despite people saying she would never make it. The radio-ready “Death of a Poet,” starts out with catchy guitars, and has a very radio-friendly sound. It’s a very catchy and infectious song that would do well on the mainstream rap charts. Again, Lyric’s rhyming skills are on point and the vocal performance on the song’s chorus adds a nice flair to the track.

Lyric is a talented rap artist that creates great songs with hot beats and blazing rhymes. She isn’t afraid to put her personal thoughts and feelings out there, and this makes her music very relatable to listeners. With a little fine tuning to some of the elements of her songs, Lyric can have great success. The future looks bright for this talented musician!
