I just checked out “Love Me Hate Me”, the latest vid from Quesfire and I can’t believe that only 600 people have watched this video. I mean this guy is better than most of the garbage that you tune in to on the idiot box. Maybe it’s because he’s too blatant, too honest or too talented in the eyes of the mainstream machine. In any event, you can witness this guy’s talent, unfiltered and uncut right here. Allow me to weigh in with my official $.02…
The Good: This track is a panoramic view of the hardships that most truly Indie musicians experience throughout their careers. I’m sure that plenty of you have experienced the rival musician hater, the wannabe manager, the janky promoter, the high-horse riding producer and the shady videographer at some point. If you haven’t, you definitely will. Ques’s basic flow connects with stinging lasting verbiage; raising awareness about the politics and bullshit that goes on in the music industry. One of my fave lines of the track is “How bout managers\Swear on their connects\Lying to their artists just to make a check\When you fire them\They start disrespect\But why should I sign you when I don’t see a check?” I’m loving it!
The Bad: TruthFirst Studios does a nice job at bringing the music to the big screen, however the effects they chose were kind of lame. The video would have been just fine without most of them. Also, it could have used some more visual aids (maybe some scenes where transactions actually take place between the artist and the promoter, videographer and or producer).
Overall: I really enjoyed watching this video. Its organic feel will leave a lasting impression in your mind and Quesfire’s original take on the shady business of music resonates deep. That’s my $.02. What’s yours?
