The more things change, the more they stay the same
Rapper Prince Ace’s vid for his track “For Da Squad” is a “smh” affair. Played out lyrics, too much Autotune, and weary visuals all add up to a sub-par affair. It’s apparent that Ace has talent, but gets bogged down by too many missteps. With a little work, Prince Ace can be king in the Rap world if he set his sights on it!
For Da Squad is a decent song with a beat that gets your head bobbing. But the theme is one heard so many times in Rap music that this song quickly becomes forgettable. Ace attempts to sing in the chorus of the track with an overwhelming use of Autotune. And why the use of Autotune in the Rap lyrics also??? It is unnecessary. Vision Lyfe Films disappoints with the same old scenes that have been in Rap videos for years and years—rapping in front of crowds of people out in the streets. Enough of this already. And the lyrics? Been there, heard that. How many times do we have to listen to the “ride or die” lyrics about sticking up for your crew? Please rap about a new subject, or at least make it more interesting. The tired formula is just too much for Ace’s track and the vid—I quickly became bored and lost interest pretty rapidly.
My suggestion? More interesting song lyrics, way less Autotune, and something new going on in the visuals. Check out his video and let us know if you’re feeling the same way.
