[dropcap]T[/dropcap]here aren’t many producer/emcees that can deliver in both realms, but London’s Funky DL always brings it. From every bar to every snare, this guy continues to crank out countless hits for us all to enjoy. His latest album, NANE, is one of the best that I’ve heard this quarter.
NANE is filled with a variety of conceptual songs that make this album a “must have”. There’s something for everybody; the ode to the ladies (“Heaven Sent”), the insightful/political cut (“Clock Watchers”), and the definitive street anthem (“Walk of a Champion” f/ Gods Son). My favorite track on the album is “Speaking for Hip-Hop”. The lyrics are bananas and the beat… the beat is #sofakingamped! DL cements his forthcoming pathway to elite producer status by flipping one of Hip-Hop’s most sampled tracks, Bob James’ Nautilus in a fresh, unique way. We are witnessing the resurgence of real, authentic Hip-Hop in his truest form.
Funky DL has created yet another classic Hip-Hop album. His ability to put his own creative spin on well-known samples gives me hope that Hip-Hop will return to its roots. Do yourself a favor today and cop this one. You won’t be disappointed!
