Irish Alt/Rock band Paradox is taking us back to the 90’s with their dark video for the song “Mr. Bureaucracy.” The moody lyrics and thrashing guitars bring back to mind the heyday of dark Alternative type Rock music, and director Damien Murphy complements the music perfectly with his creepy visuals. This was the perfect vid to watch to get in the mood for thrills and chills….
We see people wearing creepy looking masks in this video– pig masks, horse masks, Jason from Friday the 13th masks, Phantom of the Opera masks, you name it. As the gritty guitars and dark lyrics swell in the background, you can’t help but feel a little creeped out by it all. As the lead singer asks the “evil” government to “leave [him] alone” over and over, we see a man in a suit racking back and forth crazily and a woman typing on a computer keyboard until her fingers start to bleed. The whole affair is a bit dated– the tired theme about big government taking over, the creepy visuals we have seen in vids from Korn back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, and the Nirvana-esque sound of the music– but its effective and keeps your attention, and the band is talented, with good guitars and drums and a lead singer with a voice suited for Rock songs. And the masks seen in the video give the visuals just the right tone to go along with the vibe of the music. So despite seeming a little behind the times, it was still an enjoyable experience!
