Irish Rock/Alternative band Paradox is entering the scene with their LP Corporate Pollution, a collection of punishing music that will make your ears bleed. This band is talented with the hard Rock genre, but also has a softer side with slower ballads.
“Corporate Pollution” is a hard hitting Rock song with grueling guitars, a dark melody, and moody lyrics. It’s catchy, well composed, and sticks in your head. It’s also very radio-friendly and would do well on any Hard Rock chart. The only negative thing to say about this particular song is the lead singer’s weak voice. For such a gritty song, a more powerful gritty voice would work better. He tries to throw some growls in there, but it comes off as weak and ineffective. “Emptiness” is a slower song, with a mellower feel. The vocals are a tad off-key, but the singer’s light voice works better with this type of song rather than the hard, gritty ones. “Mind Mud” is another hard hitting song with thrashing guitars and a dark mood. Again, the guitar playing is great but the weak vocals are almost drowned out by the instrumentation. It was smart of the band to create this song with more instrumentation than lyrics, because this highlights their talents and hides their biggest weakness– the vocals. Perhaps the lead singer can work on his voice, learning to emote more loudly and to put more grit in his voice to match the music.
Paradox is a good Rock band that knows how to create catchy songs, and that really knows how to rock out. A few things they can work on are to be careful of not boring listeners with their slower songs, and to work on the vocals. If they improve in these areas, there is no stopping this talented band from hitting the mainstream!
