The Northerners release an impressive new EP
Richmond, VA Rock band The Northerners has released their powerful new EP, “Virginia.” The song is emotional, with great vocals and instrumentation that draws you in. It may not be the most exciting song in the world, but the raw emotion will intrigue the listener.
The backing instrumentation is the first thing you notice listening to this song. The piano and organ are phenomenal. Singer Justin Khoury comes in with his raspy, soulful voice that works well with this type of ballad-y Rock song. The soaring vocals are pleasing to the ear, and the emotion of his singing hooks you. The backing music is not overwhelming and perfectly highlights the vocals. Towards the middle of the song, the tempo picks up and the piano and organ is really highlighted here. Sister Ally Khoury comes in with her vocals, which sound very similar to her brother’s. The same soulful raspy voice but with a higher range. She hits all the high notes and her powerful voice shines. It’s a powerful roller coaster of sound and great vocals that you wish would last just a little longer.

The Northerners have a great Rock/Bluesy sound that is refreshing to hear in this day and age of manufactured “Rock” music, and bands that are more Pop than true Rock. The song “Virginia” showcases what this band is about—good music and loads of talent. This band has a lot to offer, and hopefully will have more good music to come.
