Concepts were lacking
Have you ever turned on an artist’s album and from the first note of the first song know that you were about to hear something amazing? That just happened to me a few minutes ago after checking out Jonny Goode’s Flying Past the Stars on Silver Wings (Whew, long title!). The collection features 9 tracks of awesome Lite/Classic Rock. It’s only a matter of time before this guy blows up on a major scale. Here’s my official $.02…
The Good: I really dig Goode’s style. He belts out powerful throaty notes a-la Joe Cocker in his prime on “Love Don’t Come Round Here”, and then switches gears to a softer, subtle tone on “Ocean Blue”. On the instrumental tip, it’s everything you’d want to hear from an artist in this genre; a good mixture of melodic, up-tempo and acoustic greatness.
The Bad: The only drawback I could clearly spot out was the album’s concept, or lack thereof. Love is a wonderful thing to sing about, but deviating from this overtly apparent theme would have sold me on a five star rating. Mix it up next time.
Overall: This is undeniably a great assemblage of music for you to add to your music library. Check out Flying Past the Stars on Silver Wings and more music from this phenomenal artist on his Soundcloud page. You’ll be happy you did. And that is my official $.02. What’s yours?
