ledgehammer Pieter Rautenbach really delivers the drumbeats for Reasonable Man (RM), a 4-man Rock band from Secunda, South Africa. Bassist Migael Rossouw, guitarist Pierre Lombard and vocalist/guitarist Dennis Puth round out the talented quartet. Formed in 2011, RM is a brand new band with only two original songs: “Empire of Stone” and “Red Paprica.” Each song is amped to ignite the rebirth of Rock; as a duo they are powder kegs with enough firepower to spark a musical inferno. Both cuts have been featured on commercial radio and online radio stations. They infuse smoky Blues and a squirt of Punk to up their octane to serious high test.
Lead singer Dennis Puth’s energetic, guttural growls and snarls set the tone for “Empire of Stone.” Toss in a snarky hook, kick-ass drums and fiery, grinding guitars and you’ve got Rock and Roll on steroids. The lyrics are classic Rock and capture the trademarked rebellious, restless and relentless questioning of authority that defines the genre. Familiar guitar riffs and drumbeats build to a satisfying finale as we groove to a tale about the creation of a utopia called “Empire of Stone.” “Red Paprica” is formulaic Rock, pure and simple. Mellow strings and drums build and morph into banging, repetitive chords. As in the case of the beloved “Louie, Louie” I have no idea what the words are, but to paraphrase the Stones, ‘It’s only Rock and Roll and I like it.’
Lovers of underground Rock, Reasonable Man is the band for you! Rautenbach’s drumming is phenomenal. He is the meat and the heat behind the beat, pounding his tom-toms with passion and power! The guitars flare and flame like fireworks. Polished and powerful, vocalist Dennis Puth wraps lyrics in his own style and delivers them in traditional Rock cadence that never goes out of style. RM flies the flag for good old-fashioned Rock and Roll. Two very different songs showcase the versatility of RM, yet both retain that nameless star quality and sound that defines the band.
