mcee extraordinaire Rael J Wallace, one half of the Hip-Hop duo Brother Nature, holds it down for the lyricists of Silicon Beach on his latest single, “Back to That Funk”. Wallace couples clever wordplay with an evenly match simplistic flow while describing a day in his life as an artist in the competitive world of music. Wallace collaborates with Profile, an up and coming producer, to create 4 minutes of head nodding bliss for avid Hip-Hop heads.
Rael J’s most recent contribution to Hip-Hop is infused with the ’90-’94 era of the genre; bringing to mind A Tribe Called Quest, Arrested Development and Diggable Planets. And like the aforementioned, Rael J creates verbal and mental memorable moments for the listeners. Rael gives his thoughts on performing by stating:
I rock crowds for like a hundred folks
And at the end of this I barely get a hundred notes
That’s hardly what I’m putting into this
But to complain? That would be some pussy shit
I just do this for my niggas in the hood
And my 99 percent, everything gonna be good
His words clearly state the mindset of many performers; do it for the love, your fans, and for the love of your fans. Profile provides a fantastic laid-back groove with a light bass line and an unforgettable string riff. The reverb on the snare adds a nice touch to the slightly muted kick which together make for a well-constructed percussion section of the song.
Rael J and Profile have collaborated to give devoted Hip-Hop heads what they crave; banging beats, poignant lyrics and originality. Back to That Funk is only a sneak preview of what musical magic has yet to come.
