The video for singer/songwriter Lisa Lim’s Blues-tinged Rock anthem “Superstitious Mind” is 3.29 minutes of my lifetime that I honestly can never get back– and what a waste of those few precious moments! Boring and cheesy are a few words that come to mind when describing this vid. Its a shame, because Lim is a very talented guitar player– and her talent is overshadowed by cheap visuals and sub par singing.
Lim is obviously a great musician, but that’s as far as it goes. Deciding to put the “singer” in her singer/songwriter title was a mistake. She’s often off-key; it takes away from her talents as a lyricist and guitarist. The video does not help matters any either. The scenes of Lim and her band playing in a dingy, brick-walled room is depressing. She takes depressing to a whole other level in her scenes singing in a cemetery. The only saving grace is Lim’s sick guitar solo halfway through the video. She has mad skills, and its a shame that its overshadowed by the negative displayed in the video.
If you are looking for a good chuckle, tune in to this vid. The cheap quality and boring features are not good ingredients to make a interesting and successful music video with. The only reasons to watch are to see Lim shred on the guitar and to get a nice laugh at the “cheese” factor that permeates throughout. Please, please, please Lisa Lim– stick to the guitar and let someone else take over as lead singer….. Then hire a better video director!
