IKON’s Hustle is Iconic
Cleveland emcee IKON is the one of the hardest working cats in the business. He spits, makes beats, creates apparel, and mans the helm of his imprint, Go Getta Records. This cat is making major moves. His fifth studio album, The Scripture- Cleveland 2:16, is absolutely bananas! This 12 track opus is like a musical Google Maps taking you on a virtual tour of his beloved city one hot 16 at a time.
You rarely hear an album that you can rock to from start to finish without hitting FFWD. The Scripture is blatantly hot from start to finish. The catchy hooks, varied production and Ikon’s signature dynamic wordplay work in concert to deliver a Hip-Hop masterpiece that is as balanced as two Libras on a scale. IKON spits verbal hay-makers from the hard hitting intro “The Scripture” through to the Jazz inspired insightful final track “In General”. This cat has bars! I love the way he juxtaposes his set ups and punchlines. For example:
“Playing my Low hand like I’m Lindsey and Shit/ Niggaz Thug to the bone like they Bizzy and shit/A lot of niggaz cooking pies like it’s Wendy’s and shit/Cause niggaz started from the bottom like they Drizzy and shit…”
“I’m seeking for Revenge like I’m Charlotte Grayson/The way I Paul George a nigga once he gets to Pacing”
The beats are just as powerful. Some of the standouts are the laid back “3hree 6ixty 5ive” the Boom-Bap laced “Real Life” and the Trap inspired “4 My Niggaz”. The flow of the album is flawless and keeps your attention from beginning to end.
IKONis definitely that guy to keep an ear out for. So hit the play button and just soak it all in. Hit him up on social media and be sure to check out his back catalog while waiting for him to drop his next classic LP. You can thank me later.
