Indie band False Nines will have you rocking and grooving to the heat of their latest catchy record “Can’t Afford to Wonder”. The Manchester quartet (consisting if Aaron Lavery, George Robertson, Jake Sanders and Jake Chivers) has a potential charting hit on their hands which could easily chart on a variety of musical platforms.
False Nines’ talents run the gamut of the musical spectrum and are on full display on this sharp, upbeat record. The percussion sets the tone for the adjoining instruments; the hi-hat is nice and full on the hook and the crashes are spread out just enough to give the song that extra oomph in accented spots. The guitars are champion with perfect sequences throughout. The highlight for me was the vocals, more so the filter applied to them. The effects made the lead vox crisp and muddy all at the same time which is a task that isn’t easily pulled off successfully. False Nines took a lo-fi approach to their video, a little too lo-fi for me, but it worked out well. Their “Do It Your Damn Self” approach was pulled off without a hitch by mounting a few cameras in key locations and just going for it. They, along with other DIYDS artists continue to prove that you can make a quality video without breaking the bank.
You can’t go wrong with False Nines. Their unique recording is ready for primetime and with some tweaks their visuals will be ready too. You can cop the single on Bandcamp for a mere £2, and keep up with False Nines by following them on Twitter.
