The video for Folk/Pop artist Disconcerting P is unique and different from anything I have witnessed in a long while. It’s a very, very simple concept with Disconcerting P singing along to the lyrics of the song, all in black in white. There are no other scenes, and no other people or characters in the video. Some may find this to be boring or dumb, but it was refreshing in my opinion!
In the vid, the lyrics of the catchy, poppy, sunny sounding upbeat song are written out on the right side of the screen as Disconcerting P is on the left, mouthing along to the lyrics. He takes a few breathers, smoking a cigarette between lines. An amusing element of the video is when the instrumental segments of the song play– Disconcerting P stands there on the right and a box pops up on the left, showing him dancing in front of a mural of palm trees. I found this to be funny and apparently so does D.P., as he grins and laughs as this goes on. Then the video ends, with nothing else but what I’ve just describes occurring. Simple, uneventful, but still interesting to watch.
Director Padraig McCauley has a unique concept with this vid– all that we see is Disconcerting P lip-syncing to his lyrics and the words are written out on screen. Some may find it to become boring and tedious after a minute or so, but I did not. I also liked the song– it has good instrumentation and D.P. has a soothing, Jack Johnson-ish style of singing. Did you enjoy this vid like I did, or did you think it was too boring?
