In 2013 we heard a lot of music, saw numerous videos and connected with a sea of artists. And there’s no better way to celebrate the beginning of a new Amped year without recognizing last year’s biggest and brightest stars. So with no further ado, we present to you the 2013 Dean’s List…
People’s Champ – Jenny Bapst
No Amped Sounds artist has generated more buzz in 2013 than emerging Pop star Jenny Bapst. She has released amazing videos and records that Amped Nation can’t resist. Our readership has been tuned into Ms. Bapst since her introduction in early 2012 and she continues to be our most viewed/searched/ artist.
Honorable Mention: Strange Elements, The Little Green Man
Video of the Year: Fly Panda – Face Drop
This video raised the bar for music videos. The scripting, directing and camera work can hang with any mainstream video out there! Look for these guys to make a lot of noise in 2014!
Honorable Mention: Astro Safari – Bomb.com, Political Animals – Man The Mic
Song of the Year: Tyke T- Can’t Stop Us
I knew that there was something special about this song from the first time I heard it. This bona fide street anthem has “Worldwide Smash” written all over it! It’s a record that you will hear in everything from soundtracks to sporting events. This is dope…. Pure dope!
Honorable Mention: Christoffer Hiding – Shine On, The Aftaskool Project – I Like to Love You
Album of the Year: Mo Lowda and the Humble – Curse the Weather
Mo Lowda and the Humble’s Curse the Weather is an album that suits almost any occasion, hence the reason for such a high honor. We’ve followed them since 2012 and they’ve continued to put out great genre-transcending music.
Honorable Mention: Armond – Kairos, iLLPHONICS – iLLPHONICS
Producer of the Year – Funky DL
The UK’s premiere producer has continued to release blazing instrumentals all year long and his latest “Classic Was the Day – The Black Instrumentals” is no different. You artists need to get with this guy. He makes hits!
Honorable Mention: The Epixx, Tranzducer
We’d like to recognize some other artists who grind daily to bring you great music
One Man Gang Award – Mike Larry Draw
This guy does it all. He rhymes, produces, engineers, writes and on top off all that, he films/edits his own music videos. Think you should be here? Grind harder!
Iron Mic Consistency Award – Armond
The secret to longevity in the music world is a consistent flow of entertaining sounds. That doesn’t necessarily mean flooding the Internet with a bunch of mix tapes either. It takes time to craft the perfect release, and no one knows that better than Armond. We’ve been tuned in to Armond for a few years now and he continues to put out solid music.
Shout out to all of the promoters and DJs that keep us flooded with new talent (Josh Woodard, Sam/Jen and the crew at Working Brilliantly, Tom Brumpton, DJ BlackStarr, Yaseen and the Rhyme Culture Crew).
And a special S/O to you Amped Nation! Thank you for another successful year!
