This video was waaaay too long!
The vid for Damgroove’s “Arrodance Punk” is definitely an experience. It’s wild, weird, distinctive, and keeps viewers on their toes. But at over 17 minutes, people with no lives or very long attention spans will be the only ones to successfully watch the whole thing through without fast forwarding or nodding off midway through. With that being said, both the visual and audio components of the video are interesting and like nothing you have seen before.
Damgroove is a talented EDM artist. The 17 minutes worth of music is broken up into four or five different sections, all sounding different from one another, but complementing each other with the interesting beats and unique sounds. For each of these “sections” of the song, we see different scenes with various characters from a wide variety of movies, TV shows, and cartoons. It’s pretty cool to sit and pick out the characters you know, and to try to rack your brain to remember the ones that may be a little fuzzy. All of the characters– such as Austin Powers, Ren (from Ren and Stimpy), one half of the Odd Couple, and Star Wars clones– appear to be dancing to the music. This is all fine and captivating for maybe the first five or so minutes of the video, but as the whole thing drags on past ten, then fifteen minutes, boredom and fatigue set in. Director Adrian Johnson did a great job with the visuals and found plenty of fodder to fill the +17 minutes of the song, but unfortunately it’s just too long. Damgroove needs to shorten the song, and an abbreviated video would work well and not be as tedious as it is at a longer run time. This would greatly improve on the viewing experience of this video.
Damgroove’s “Arrodance Punk” is a fun and interesting video worth checking out. The music is up-tempo, unique, and great to dance to. The characters dancing in the vid are fun to watch also. But a shorter, condensed version would work way better. As it is now, be prepared for a long wait for the vid to end!
