When you think of Hip-Hop, Nebraska is probably the last place that comes to mind. However, Lincoln native Clev Trev’s new single/video “What I See”, may be the kick start that the Cornhusker State needs to put it on the map. This insightful video will tug hard at your heartstrings. With that said, here’s my official $.02
The Good: I have three words for this video: relatable, relatable, relatable. This video gives a voice to so many young ladies across the country that is going through emotional struggles. Trev’s straight forward lyrics and relaxed flow sequences make the song’s poignant theme easy to connect to. Director James Michael Kriha’s storyboarding, casting, and direction are all on point; keeping the visuals crisp, entertaining and most importantly, engaging.
The Bad: I’m definitely feeling some type of way about the hook. I mean, the lyrics are good, but the delivery… that can definitely be tightened up.
Overall: This video is definitely a “Must See”. The hook may drag on a bit, but that’s small change compared to the big picture. The visuals, theme and acting performances are solid and very intriguing. The best thing of all is that anyone can relate to this insightful and introspective song.
