I just checked out the official video for “The Siren’s Song,” the latest from R&B/Dance icon Classy Silhouette. I dig it, but I honestly have some mixed emotions about it. With that said, here’s my official $.02…
The Good: This song has that early 90s feel to it. This classic record is remeniscent of Loose Ends and Soul II Soul, but maintains a feel all of its own. Classy has a smooth, unique tone that works well for her. Her voice stays on target and operates in a firm, well-defined cadence/vocal range.
The Bad: This video was over seven minutes long. Seven minutes with no clear understanding of what was really happening. I had to hit the About tab on YouTube to get the big picture. I did that because as a reviewer it’s my job to understand what I’m reviewing. However, the average consumer will give it about 30 seconds then move on. It’s a harsh reality, but most people will not stick around long enough to try to figure a video out.
Overall: Classy Silhouette’s music is on point. She has a lot to offer the ever evolving Dance genre and I’m confident that she will continue to be a commandeering musical force. However, this video really didn’t do her musical talents any justice. My advice for you Classy: Next time around you should create a shorter, more concise video. Your fans will thank you and your view count will increase. And that people is my official $.02… What’s yours?
