Charlie Milliken – The Charlie Milliken EP
Great vocals and instrumentation, radio friendly and catchy songs
Many of the songs sound similar
The new EP from Pop/Soul artist Charlie Milliken is impressive. He is a talented musician with a lot to offer. His songs are catchy, very radio friendly, and his vocals and guitar skills are on point.
On the track “Change Me,” the music is fast-paced and catchy. The guitar playing is great, and Milliken’s vocals are remarkable. The song has a Funk/Pop vibe to it that is very appealing. Milliken’s vocals are fast paced, but he doesn’t skip a beat. This song reminds me of something Jason Mraz would put out, which is a compliment. “Forever and Always” is a slower song, with Milliken’s talented guitar skills front and center. Again, the vocals are spot on and the song is good. There is a mellow, calming feel to this track, and Milliken hits all the high notes effortlessly. I also liked the addition of the horn; it gives the song a unique twist. The track “Take Control” has a good beat, and Milliken’s great voice blends well with the back-up singers. The song is catchy and gets your foot tapping, but runs in the danger of sounding too much like other songs on the EP. This happens again on the last song, “Better.” This slower tempo song is catchy, and again has great vocals and instrumentation. But it does sound similar to some of his other songs. The saving grace is this song is the hand claps, which gives the track a down home feel that isn’t as prominent in the other songs.
Charlie Milliken is a talented artist, with great vocal and instrumentalist skills. The songs on his latest EP are radio-friendly, catchy, and consistently present good lyrics and instrumentation. He can give a lot of mainstream artists a run for their money. But one thing he needs to be careful of is having too similar sounding songs all on one EP. With some work on that element, Milliken has the potential for a very bright future!
