I’ll start this review with a question; do you like chocolate? Damn right you do! There’s no better treat to have this time of year. We’ve got a beattape that will satisfy your sweet tooth sent to us by Centipede the Real. His instrumental EP, Boksuhchoklets, is a hearty mix of Hip-Hop, Soul, and Funk that will keep your head nodding for days.
The sweet smell of Hip-Hop fills the air as this collection of flow-worthy beats pounds through my speakers. Emcees will feel their writing hand twitch while consuming the ground-pounding “Wyte Choklet (Smile)”. The Dilla inspired track leads with a commandeering kick, accompanied by smoothly chopped strings, horns and a vocal addition that fills the track like a strawberry inside of its chocolate coating. “Milk Choklet” honestly didn’t do it for me. It’s a bit too mellow, lethargic even, and will put you to sleep after indulging in the entire 2+ minutes. The standout track without a doubt is the laid-back and sexy “Dark Choklet”. If you got flow, you’ll be compelled to drop a hot 16 to it. This smooth vibe could be created into a perfect love song, with either rapping or singing in the forefront. It’s a chocolate lover’s dream, just like the mixture of chocolate and peanut butter.
Centipede’s Boksuhchoklets is a decent EP that will keep even the most finicky beat enthusiasts and emcees satisfied. The shortcomings are few but the Soul flows in abundance. From what I understand, Centipede has some new music coming real soon. This will hold you over until it arrives.
