Bright sounds and dark visuals provide the perfect contrast in this soulful video.
Awesome music!
The visuals could use some excitement
The video for “Óumflýjanlegt” is simple yet interesting. We see Icelandic singer Brynhildur Oddsdóttir dressed in black robes and heavy Goth make-up running around in the woods, riding horses and playing with torches of fire. It has a mysterious, dark vibe that goes along with the slinky, sleek feel to the music. Although director Eva Rut Hjaltadóttir keeps things at a minimum on the visuals, the great music and spiritual-like feel to the video keeps your attention all the way to the last scene.
The jazzy elements to the song are refreshing in this pop-heavy time period in music and everything is spot on. The instrumentation is great– the drums, electric piano, and jazz guitar all come together to create a wonderful sound which is perfectly complemented by Oddsdóttir’s mellow voice. She is a very talented singer and it shines in this song. The scenes of Oddsdóttir standing by the stream, riding a horse through the woods, and waving torches of fire in the night sky are not very exciting, but it works. The great music keeps your attention. Although the lyrics are in another language it doesn’t take away from the effect of the song. One does not need to know what is being sung– the vibe of the music and the emotion in the vocals are all that matter.
