The Bull Bey is one of Hip-Hop’s best kept secrets. He’s an emcee for the people; a reporter of sorts who describes the gruesome images from the battlefield known as the City of Brotherly Love in rhythmical form. His latest video “SNL” from his current album You’re Quite Right is far from sketch comedy. Bey spits unfiltered flows alongside a live band a-la Black Thought and does so in convincing fashion. The dramatic black and white visuals provided by Man with the Cam do an outstanding job at aligning the music with the imagery.
If you’re unfamiliar with Bey, you may quickly draw comparisons of him to Lupe Fiasco. But don’t be mistaken by their analytic similarities. Bey has a style all of his own. His brazen delivery is sharp as a razor’s edge as he spits
“I started off saying hopefully/Then it turned into Fuck That, you’re gonna notice me!/Cause it’s only a handful spittin with some potency/The rest you wouldn’t notice if you just throw away the beat.”
The remainder of the track is laden with great punch lines and slick witty proverbs. Though the video lacks a true storyline, the energy of Bey and the accompanying band, spitfire editing and multi-angle shots keep this video interesting. Do yourself a favor today and treat yourself to this visual experience then when you’re finished, indulge in his full length feature, You’re Quite Right. You’ll be happy you did.
