The Bull Bey never ceases to amaze me. He continues to drops dope track after dope track and his latest single, “Life” (featuring crooner Leon Tomas and Pac Div emcee Like) bears that ear-catching signature sound as his previous works of art. Everything from the creatively penned verses to the head nodding beat (provided by producer Clark Kennedy) and vivacious hook will keep your head nodding and your finger pressing the rewind button. And on with that, here’s my official $.02…
The Good: The first word that comes to mind after listening to this track a few times is “complete”. The opening synthesized chords set the tone for what follows; a heart pounding chopped rendition of The Winston’s timeless break, Amen Brother. Bey immediately connects with you via his crisp delivery and honest lyrics. Leon Tomas gives a hot performance and you’ll find yourself singing the hook over and over again. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Pac Div’s Like stokes the fire with his blazing verse. This is an awesome song that will be an instant underground/mainstream success is marketed correctly.
The Bad: The only issue that I have with this track is the similarity of Like and Bey’s voices. It’s heard to tell the difference between the two (Bey performs the first two verses and Like performs the last). That’s enough to dock a few points, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that is hands-down a “must-have”.
Overall: I love to this track and I know that you will too. Upon listening, you’ll realize how enjoyable it is and how easy it is to connect to. The song’s nostalgic feel, memorable hook and amped lyricism feels good. Enjoy this song in abundance at high volumes! That’s my $.02… What’s yours?
