[dropcap]D[/dropcap]J Wood and DJ Timix of Radio Juicy enlisted the work of Germany’s top up and coming beat makers to give you Radio Juicy presents: Fear and Loathing in Beats. This 28 track compilation is 80 minutes of head-nodding breaks, loops and samples served up on a silver platter. Hard hitting kicks create ample ground for snares, hi-hats, samples and voice snippets to interact; gaining blissful momentum with each passing measure.
The beats displayed on the beat tape span a number of styles from the trippy synth-induced sounds of MecsStreeM and Ben Bada Boom to the Golden Era Boom-Bap of Funkbademeister and Lazy Jones. There’s too many great track to list them all, but the stand out track in my opinion is Toetensen’s Mescal Springs. The nostalgic up-tempo track is fierce; elements of “Nautilus” and “Smiling Faces” add flare to a commanding drum loops making it an ideal cypher track to flex your lyrical skill. It’s definitely a “Must Hear”.
Fear and Loathing is a well constructed body of work that’s sort of a throwback of when Hip-Hop was still generating and cultivating authentic sounds. The compilation flows fluidly with no major missteps of filler and features something for everyone to enjoy. Press play to preview, then head over to their Bandcamp page to cop it. Enjoy!
