Country fans will enjoy Ashley Baker’s song “Cigarette Smokin’.” Country MALE fans will enjoy the video for “Cigarette Smokin’.” The music is hot, Baker’s voice has the perfect pitch and power behind it, and the visuals are sexy and sleek. My only suggestion to Baker is to tone it down just a bit and not try so hard to be country music’s next sex kitten. Her voice and talent is enough without having to rely so heavily on her physical appearance to get far in the country music world.
The video starts out with scenes in a pool hall, then we see Baker with a little too much make-up on, trying hard to look sexy in a short skirt, flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder. This should get men’s attention immediately. But then we hear her voice– strong yet sweet, with just enough grit to it. This gets everyone’s attention, male or female. She has amazing vocal ability, and her voice goes along with the country vibe of the music perfectly. The instrumentation is spot-on, and the guitar solo mid-song is awesome. I really enjoyed the song and the video is ok– just scenes of Baker and the band playing on a stage and then scenes of Baker showing off her sex-appeal. You can’t blame her for doing this– who doesn’t like a cute blonde prancing around in a shirt skirt singing her heart out in a bar? But in my opinion, this extra push on her looks isn’t needed– her voice and talent are the shining stars, and this is what made me sit up and pay attention. Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert are two pretty blondes with great voices that know when to push the sex appeal but also know when to pull it back. Baker should learn from these ladies and follow their example.

“Cigarette Smokin'” is a great country song, with great instrumentation and Baker’s strong capable voice front and center. I enjoyed listening to the music, and the video was decent. My only criticism was the heavy make-up, short skirt, and an overly sexual tone to the vid. But maybe I’m being unfair since I am not interested in female eye-candy. Perhaps I would have thought differently if it were a shirtless, good looking male singing the song instead……..
