Eclectic. Brilliant. Boundless. These are just a few adjectives that can describe The Muve, Rhode Island’s premiere quintet. The Muve is: Jay Anthony (guitar), Phil Adams (guitar), Rob Anthony (bass), Jay Hartley (drums) and Donno Ruggeri (keys).
Together they fuse various genres of music to create pure ecstasy to quench your musical thirst. This five-piece ensemble seamlessly combines elements of Rock, Reggae, and Funk, resulting in remarkable music that could be considered as a soundtrack for life itself.
From the moment the play button is pressed, picturesque melodies are released through the speakers, taking the listener on a journey into sound. Their song “Flucuations” for example opens up with playful guitar licks, but quickly escalates to a serious head-nodding composition. The keys and bass take command as guitarists Jay Anthony and Phil Adams duel with the rhythm. The vocals add another level of depth to the song with lyrics that solidify Newton’s Law of Gravity; clearly stating that what goes up, must come down.
The musical escapade continues with “MaGumbo” (a synonym for awesome). The song’s infectious bass line, delivered by Rob Anthony, is the driving force behind this feel good song. It is flanked by a perfect blend of percussion and superb string sessions. The synthesized key solo is reminiscent of Kool and the Gang’s “Summer Madness”. Donno Ruggeri tickles the ivory as The Muve voyages into the cosmos. The songs outro provides m extra point of exclamation as drummer Jay Hartley hammers the skin as if they were nails.
As the adventure moves on, The Muve navigates into the Soul/Reggae fused “Pity the Fool”. The guitar’s harmonious melodies penetrate the soul as the vocals provide food for thought in matter of the heart. The Soul and Reggae sequences blend perfectly as the band transitions between styles. Once again, the vocals add the icing to a flawlessly baked cake.
Harmonious, artistic and awesome are a few more adjectives that can be used to describe The Muve. The truth of the matter is that there probably aren’t enough adjectives to honorably depict this band. They are a gifted quintet with an astounding musical catalog that will remind music lovers of the reasons that they fell in love with music.
