The Fuzz Band is an R&B/Soul/Urban Rock/Hip Hop/Jazz/ Funk/ Pop band originating from Hampton VA. The eight member band has a unique sound that blends urban and rock music together into a pleasant fusion. A talented group of musicians, they have performed with the likes of Outkast, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, and Alicia Keys. The Fuzz Bands’ music is professional and mature, enjoyable to listen to, and very radio friendly. This band has a lot of talent under its belt, and should have a very long and successful career.
One of their musical offerings, “Soul Cry,” is a nice jazzy, mid-tempo number. The female lead vocalist’s voice is pleasant and soothing, with nice range—she’s able to hit both the high and lower notes effortlessly. The song’s back-up vocals are also a perfect complement to the lead singer’s voice. The piano, horns, and snare drum also stand out in this track, blending easily with the lyrics—a near perfect arrangement. The music is calming, emotional, with every component in perfect harmony to create a unique and wonderful sound. “Soul Cry” is a very fulfilling song that allows the band’s talent to shine through. Upon listening to the track, its easy to see that this group of musicians are pros.
“Love” is an intense song with emotional lyrics that starts out slow, but gradually builds up to excellence. The male vocalist starts out singing in a low, understated tone. To the listener, it may at first come across as almost a kind of sleepy arrangement. But then the track quickly begins to pick up in the middle—there is more feeling in the vocals, a more lush instrumentation, and the tempo speeds up. This builds the listener’s interest and excitement for the song. Then, the lead singer’s falsetto is the crescendo—the highlight of the track. Then the song descends back down into the slower rhythm from the beginning of the song. It ends with the singer crooning softly about his feelings of passionate love. Perhaps the arrangement of the track is deliberate—love can start out slow, building up to that moment of intense connection with another person, then winds down to an everyday normal feeling of caring and companionship…… “Love” is a song that most all listeners can relate to, and has powerful lyrics that drive home the feeling of wonder and excitement that comes with a new-found love affair.
The band not only offers really good songs with heart-felt lyrics, but also put out very good instrumental music. An example of this is “Catalyst,” a song made up of just horns, drums, and woodwinds. It’s a fun, up-tempo, funky tune that gets your head bopping and your feet tapping. The skill and talent of the instrument players shine through, and their joy at creating music is apparent without any lyrics at all. The song gets listeners up and dancing, and it showcases that the band members are not only adept lyricists, but are also pros at musical composition.
The Fuzz Band is made up of very talented, gifted musicians that are consistent in putting out first-rate music. They have been in the game since 1997, and their professionalism is easily evident through their songs. It’s hard to believe that these guys have not been on the radio, enjoying great success that would be well deserved. The Fuzz Band is a group definitely worth checking out—listeners will not be disappointed in what they hear.
